An Emotional Goodbye to Rahul Dravid

Dear Sir Rahul S Dravid,
Only the mature and sensitive followers of Indian cricket, of the generation that grew up watching Sachin Tendulkar's Tons, Saurav Ganguly's bold straight drive sixes and your supportive presence in most of both such circumstances would understand why the true Gentleman of the Gentleman's game hung his boots today.
Ask every Indian cricket fan or rather every Indian of the above quoted generation as to who is 1st in their favorite list. You know what many would say. You don't know what many others would say. But ask them who is 2nd  in their list. There can't be anyone but you.

I am sad yet proud just like my favorite player, you, on this momentous day for Indian cricket whose effect will be probably understood better in the next test series without you, Mr.Dependable.
Two days back when the insanely hyper reactive media flashed the rumors that you are going to announce the retirement on friday, though for one moment I prayed that you won't, I reminded myself of your stainless steel character. Then I woke up to the hard truth.

Now, I have as many questions as yourself. I know you will figure out way too sooner. But I cannot.
The only reason I have been watching Test matches patiently hiding the remote controller below my seat even when my family protested for other programs on TV was the spiritual presence of you on the field in those blue baggy cap and fully sweated jersey numbered 19.
The only reason I started watching IPL was to have a glimpse of you though I think neither of us was comfortable with that format.
I never kept any role models. I never fanatically followed a foreign football club. I never pasted any film star's photo in my room. But I still don't know how you managed to slip through all my checkpoints.
When I look back at my close peers' list, I am surprised to remember each one of them telling your name as their favorite, sometime or the other. May be somebody admiring you with full heart was an easy filter to pick my types.
I must tell you, you were one good reason enough to make good friends.

I am sad that I cannot see you in the Indian blues on the field anymore. I am sad that I only have to watch those trigonometric square cuts, those text book foot works, those motivational pats on the younger player's back only on the archival videos; not live.
But I respect your decision as I know you are a very diligent decision maker.
I promise you one thing, I will tell about you to my kids in a much more passionate way than my dad told about Gavaskar to me.
Thank you for being an uninvited role model for me. Thank you for setting an example for selflessness in this era of corruption. Thank you for being as sweet as your nick name, 'Jammy'.
You will always be my favorite.

A Happy Birthday

To all those who stayed awake n woke me up yesterday midnight, to all those who woke me today morning with their calls to wish, to all those who made time out of their busy schedule and called up to pour me with heartfelt wishes, to all those kanjoos's who typed wishes in sms, to all those who gave me surprises and to all those forgetful ones who couldnt remember but wish by heart always, I just wanna say - "You all have made my day :) 'Thanks' is too small "

On Middle-Class Dreams

20 years ago in India, most of the middle-class people uttered and believed this, "If u wanna get rich, get in to politics or become a cricketer or a film star. Otherwise put your heads down and die poor. There is no way you can grow richer in clean ways". A gentleman from a humble town Mysore, Mr. N. R. Narayana Murthy disproved it.

On longevity of relationships

Well, I am a patient tester of longevity of relationships; Not amused by the superficial loft... Only few could manage to cling on for long and they shall never be left to wither... besides, many have come and gone and many more yet to come, I know. Not many might like it. But I prefer to have a few chocolates in my pocket than to hold huge unopened Gift boxes.

A Downtime

It is really hard to accept defeat when you don't even get to fight and somebody decides it by tossing a coin !!! On a disappointing downtime... Off Facebook for a while... Adieu

Enough is Enough

Dear Anna Hazare ji, I am really hoping that, today will be the last day I bribed... I am not as strong as you, to fast unto death! nor am I rigid enough to live for the nation alone! I am a naturally self centered family man! But, I feel so embarrassed to see people pushing notes in to a traffic cop's pocket while some foreign visitors gaze! I feel so much ashamed to watch the officers seeking bribe in open! I am too pissed off to see the bloody corrupted political tamasha! Hence, I promise you 3 things, if you get us what we really dreamt of; "A key to a Clean Nation": 1. I will never address u in singular. 2. I ll proudly preach about you to my kids n grand-kids. 3. I ll utilize the lokpal bill to my best to eradicate corruption up to my level. I am counting on you !

Untimely Emotions

There are times when Emotions run high within the Heart for no reason... yet I cannot spell it out ! there are other times when I own all the time in the world to Spell/Yell/Tell... but nothing comes up ! The only time when neither of them occur is when I m asleep... If both of them happen at once, that is when the poetic Phoenix arises from ashes... yet again !!!

Predator vs Prey

I hate to be a Prey all the time... so I learnt to climb... but to never be a Prey and be a Predator all the time... I know I gotta learn to fly... but the Hawks and vultures are never so generous to share the sky... and its way too early to challenge them... I guess its to time to spread wings and grow claws :)

It's time

It's time to turn the table before somebody pushes to a corner... time again for rejuvenated diplomacy, hypocrisy and strategy !!!

Better learn from Bruises

I am not sure whether to call Today, inauspicious or another Self realization point in life... met with a very minor accident which could have been severe in another minute... got first bruises on my beloved bike and myself after a long time... I guess God has alerted the lazy and absent minded part of me to better learn from these bruises... than to wait for worse lessons... Thank God once again...

Unknown Seeds

Tired of doing what I am not supposed to do without being what I am not !!! Not sure what seed m sowing !!! Is it jasmine that blossoms and withers in a day ??? or is it Mango that fruits in a year ??? or cud it be Neem that offers nothing but cool shade ??? or would it turn out to be a weed ??? Only time can tell what my toil yields...

Anger & Patience

Few recent Angry moments and aftermath Patient thinking have taught me, Anger always shows you different angles to look at an issue. But, only Patience can show you which among them is purposeful. With Anger, you explode energy. But, with patience, you can embrace energy. Now am angry for not being so patient :)

Numbers matter !!!

Life has taught me how useful numbers are, to turn the tables from being a Prey to a Predator... But I am yet to learn it fully well, which is why I think Destiny has been often putting up the table in front of me to see if I an turn it... Nevertheless, need a lot of revision classes... :)

On the first rain of Summer

Only today did I realize, how lacking my vocabulary is, when I tried to say, How Amazing, Soothing, Enthralling, Enchanting, Marvelous, Beautiful, Gorgeous, Pleasant, Amusing, Superb, Great, Inspiring, the weather was, after the Blissful Rain soaked the soil and breezed the cool air, today morning... but still couldn't describe completely, the magic of nature & express my juvenile emotions. Hats Off mother Nature !!!

A Favour

Jul 20 2010

Oh God! Do me either of these favours... kill the creative spirit within me that constantly thrills me with amazing ideas and thoughts which make me feel as though there are some unhatched eggs dancing in my stomach...Or kill this bloody laziness that has consumed my patience, dedication and enthusiasm... The 3rd alternative would be to send and Angel of inspiration like before....

Awaiting the Spark

I seriously dont know what's stopping me from Blogging... I must resolve the conflict between the creative half n the lazy half of my Brain... Just awaiting a spark of inspiration...

On IPL- 4 Auctions

Its a pinching dilemma between my Classical cricket follower and a practical materialist when I see legends like Rahul Dravid and Ganguly are put under hammer and 'bought/paid' for much less than just a lucky young amateur bowler or not even that... Sometimes I wonder, Will Cricket remain a Team Game and a Gentle men's game after all? But then the materialist digests it easily!!!
